Hawaiian Isles Tennis clinic August 12, 2009

Over 70 members participated in a free tennis clinic held by collaboration with Pearl Kai Tennis Shop, Boston’s Pizza, Talent HR Solutions, and Hawaiian Isles Tennis. Members learned to use age-appropriate equipment, along with learning the difference between forehand and backhand strokes. Cool music drifted through the air as they learned new techniques from world-class players. Afterwards, lunch was provided courtesy of Boston’s Pizza, where members could get an autographed tennis ball from the two tennis stars. Everyone had lots of fun!

On Saturday June 13, Channing Frye and Steve Blake from the Portland Trailblazers came to share their love of the game and some basic fundamentals with our Spalding clubhouse members. Afterwords there was an autograph session in the gameroom where everyone lined up to take pictures or get autographs of the two pro basketball players. Big mahalo to KHNLs coverage of the event. Tae Kwon Do Tournament April 27, 2009

On April 18th, 2009 our Tae Kwon Do students at the Spalding clubhouse competed in the 2nd annual state-wide tournament at Waipahu High School. Even though we had the smallest team, almost all of the participants came home with a medal. Tia Lewis and Sarah Garrido won bronze medals. Capturing silver medals were: Jenice & Daniel Lee, Grace & Candace Choe, Vincent Ooi, George Kim, and Theodore Brown. Chevas Pacheco won the gold medal after a spirited match against a green belt opponent.

8th Annual Sports & Fitness Day April 27, 2009

The 2009 annual event was sponsored by the Outrigger Duke Kahahamoku Foundation. It was a fun-filled day of surfing, canoe-paddling, and volleyball for clubhouse members.
